Tips and Hints:
Limitless Applications!
The Buffers, Sanders and polishers in the MasterCasters range have an endless amount of applications with whatever style of modelling you enjoy. Whether it be Railroad, Ship, or aviation modelling, Armour, figures, or Sci-Fi, whatever your interest, the MasterCasters range will make life easier.
These sticks are high quality, long lasting and will outlast any other modelling sanding sticks currently available. They are extremely good value for money as they are the largest modelling sanders available and last much longer. They work well with plastic, resin, and white metal, and when using the buffers you can safely sand resin without risking losing small details.
Finishing Tips:
when working with paint finishes and in particular with lacquers such as Alclad, it is imperative to have as smooth a surface as is humanly possible. The MasterCasters sticks prove invaluable with regards to this aspect of modelling.
As you can see from this image, the buffers and miracle shiner can get a very glossy and flat finish on a surface in preparation for painting.
Here is one of the Orange sponge sanders doing the business with one of my 35th scale projects.
I will be posting more images and applications here as I complete more and more articles using the sticks, so please keep an eye out for some useful tips and applications!
Piet Van Wyk De Vries "Canopy Magic"
Click on the image above and have a look at Piet Van Wyk De Vries "Canopy Magic" thread on saving canopy's using the MasterCasters sanders and buffers! Very handy stuff.
A simple cut on an angle at the centre of the sander will not only give an angled edge for easier access to awkward spots on the model, but it will also greatly increase the service life of the sander!
Cut in half, now there are basically two angled sanders to work with!
Shaving the foam away from the plastic card backing is also a great way to make the sanders even more versataille!
Here the shaved portion of the sander is rolled and use to sand an awkward shape in the form of the interior of a Sea Fury wheel from the Fisher Models kit.
